Overview

A support scheme by Ministry of Women & Child Development enabling self-development and empowerment of out-of-school adolescent girls, and improving their nutritional, health & hygiene status. All out-of-school adolescent girls in the 11 to 14 years age group are eligible for this scheme.

Description
A support scheme by Ministry of Women & Child Development enabling self-development and empowerment of out-of-school adolescent girls, and improving their nutritional, health & hygiene status. The scheme aims at supporting out of school AGs to successfully transition back to formal schooling or bridge learning / skill training. Upgrade their home-based skills and life skills. Provide information/guidance about existing public services such as Primary Health Centers, Rural Hospitals/CHCs, Post Office, Bank, Police Station, etc. Scheme for Adolescent Girls - SAG is implemented using the platform of Anganwadi Services of Umbrella ICDS Scheme through Anganwadi Centers AWCs .

“adolescent” means a person who has completed his fifteenth year of age but has not completed his eighteenth year;

Benefits
• Nutrition Component:
• Take Home Ration or Hot Cooked Meal for out of school girls - Nutrition Provision ₹ 9.50 per day (600 calories; 18‐20 gram of protein and recommended daily intake of micronutrients per day for 300 days in a year.).
• The financial norms will be ₹ 9.5/- per beneficiary per day for 300 days in a year. This would be inclusive of the cost of micronutrient fortification.
• Non Nutrition Component:
• IFA supplementation.
• Health check‐up and Referral services.
• Nutrition & Health Education (NHE).
• Counseling / Guidance on family welfare, ARSH, child care practices.
• Life Skill Education and accessing public services.

The out-of-school adolescent girls (11 - 14 years age) are identified by the State / UT through a Base Line Survey, a one-time activity carried out by the Anganwadi Workers (AWW) who should go from house to house to meet every family in the area covered by her AWC, and gather information about the details of such girls. Such girls are provided the benefits through the Anganwadi Centre (AWC).

Q: What is IFA Supplementation?
A: The Iron & Folic Acid (IFA) Supplements is provided to address the iron deficiency anaemia as per the National Nutrition Anaemia Control Programme (NNAPP). AGs will be given information by ANM/AWW on food fortification, dietary diversification and advantages of supplementation by IFA tablets, for combating iron deficiency anaemia.

Q: When is the general health check-up for adolescent girls organized?
A: Health check-up of all AGs is organized at least once in three months on a special day called the "Kishori Diwas" which may be synchronized with Village Health & Nutrition Day (VHND) where focused attention on Adolescent specific Health issues may given when immunization is done in the first half and later special sessions may be organized on various issues for AGs.

Q: What is Kishore Health Card?
A: Kishore Health Card provided to the adolescent girl under this scheme is used to record the information about the weight, height, Body Mass Index (BMI) of AGs along with other services provided under the scheme. These health cards for AGs are maintained at the AWCs.

Q: I am a 12 year old girl living in a rural area. Am I eligible to apply in this scheme?
A: Yes, you are eligible to apply.

Q: Are three adolescent girls from the same family eligible to apply in this scheme?
A: Yes, they are eligible to apply.

Q: How do I know if my district is covered under is scheme?
A: The complete list of district under the geographical coverage of SAG can be found in Annexures I and II of scheme guidelines.

Q: Is there any application fee?
A: No. The entire application process is completely free of cost.

Q: Do I need to visit an AWC to get myself identified?
A: The AWW of your locality should visit your home and gather the details.

Q: Will my AADHAAR Number be made public if I provide the detail to the AWW?
A: No. The information containing Aadhaar number will be obtained with the consent of the beneficiary and will be password protected following the SoP issued by MWCD.

Q: Do I need to submit the original copies of the required documents to apply?
A: No, you only need to submit photocopies of Aadhaar Card and the Proof of Age / DOB (Birth Certificate).

Q: How can one know if the data gathered by the AWW is genuine / authentic?
A: The Supervisor would check and authenticate 20% of the entries in the survey registers.

Q: Where can I find the format of the baseline survey form?
A: The form is available in the annexure of the scheme guidelines..
