Description
Launched in 2013-14, the scheme "District Level Sports School" by the Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department, Government of Gujarat, aims to provide intensive sports training and quality education to young athletes by establishing district-level sports schools under a Public-Private Partnership PPP model. The scheme seeks to identify sporting talent from events such as Khel Mahakumbh and train them using modern infrastructure, scientific methods, expert coaching, and proper nutrition, while ensuring access to formal school education. The initiative began with 9 schools 6 residential and 3 non-residential , and expanded to 24 schools by 2017-18, catering to over 2,500 students in 21 sports disciplines. Selected athletes receive benefits such as accommodation, food, school uniforms, books, sports kits, and equipment. An average of ₹2.25 lakh is spent per player annually, including ₹1 lakh Mediclaim security. The scheme is implemented by the Sports Authority of Gujarat SAG .
