The “Establishment of Tea Factories” is implemented by the Uttarakhand Tea Development Board, almora under the Department of Horticulture, Government of Uttarakhand. It aims to promote the development of the tea industry in Uttarakhand by establishing tea factories for processing locally produced green leaves, generating local employment, enhancing farmers’ income through fair procurement, and developing a sustainable tea value chain in the state.

• In the fiscal year 2023-24, the Uttarakhand Tea Development Board processed 5.92 lakh kilograms of green tea leaves and produced approximately 1.25 lakh cups of tea.
• At present, the Board has established its own tea factories in the following districts:
• Tea Factory, Ghorakhal (Nainital) – Organic
• Tea Factory, Champawat – Organic
• Tea Factory, Bhatoli (Chamoli) – Organic
• Tea Factory, Kausani (Bageshwar) – Inorganic
• Tea Factory, Harinagari (Bageshwar) – Inorganic
• In addition to the above, the Board is proposing to establish small tea factories in the following districts:
• Tea Factory, Dhauladevi (Almora)
• Tea Factory, Didihat (Pithoragarh)

Eligibility Criteria
1. It is proposed to operate the above tea factories established by the Board in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode/private sector in the future, for which the eligibility criteria and policy are being prepared.
