Description
The scheme “Bee Keeping” is implemented by the Department of Horticulture, Government of Uttarakhand. The scheme aims to promote beekeeping as a sustainable livelihood by providing subsidized bee boxes, bee colonies, and training support to farmers, thereby increasing honey production, enhancing farm income, and strengthening the beekeeping sector in Uttarakhand.

• Under this scheme:
• Bee families (bees, including the queen bee) and bee colonies (bee boxes) are provided with a 40% subsidy (maximum cost per bee box is ₹2,000/- and per bee colony is ₹2,000/-). 50 bee boxes are provided in plain areas and 25 in hilly areas.
• For example, if a bee box and bee colony cost ₹200/-, the farmer has to deposit ₹120/- at the concerned Horticulture Mobile team Centre. The government bears a subsidy of ₹80/-, and the farmer receives the box for ₹120/-.
• If a farmer wishes to keep bee colonies in their own orchards, financial assistance of ₹350/- per bee colony is provided.
• If a farmer wants to receive training, the department provides a free seven-day beekeeping training program. Along with the training, the farmer is given ₹100/- per day (totaling ₹700/-) and ₹50/- per day (totaling ₹350/-). A total of ₹1,050/- is provided to each beneficiary.
